About the Firm

Established in 2001, Goodwin & Hinson, P.A. is a general practice law firm dedicated to the highest quality legal services to individuals and to the various business communities in the Piedmont region of the Carolinas.  The partners, associates and staff have years of experience in virtually every aspect of the law and focus their time and energy on handling client matters with accuracy, innovation and timeliness.

Senior Partner, Stephen Goodwin, a native of Union County, North Carolina, in his 15 years of practice, has overseen and managed over One Billion Dollars in residential, commercial and industrial transactions, contract drafting, disputes and litigation.  He has successfully litigated, negotiated or settled a full spectrum of matters in both state and federal court including, but not limited to, the defense and prosecution of construction related issues, representing the severely injured in medical negligence cases, personal injury and wrongful death cases, landlord tenant matters and more than 25 capital murder defenses.  His career and his experiences with such a wide variety of trial and office related practices give Mr. Goodwin a depth of knowledge to handle the specific issues at hand plus the breadth of knowledge to approach any challenge from an “outside the box,” solution-oriented perspective.  As the father of daughter Kathryn and son Jeb with his wife, Dr. Corinne Goodwin, Stephen enjoys activities with his children, a round of golf, and the challenge of competitive doubles in tennis.

Managing Partner, Wes Hinson, also a Union County, North Carolina native, has developed a practice dedicated to the building community with a résumé that includes representation of two of the largest builder/developers in the United States.  Mr. Hinson uses a full complement of legal and negotiating skills and a disarming personality to complete many complicated transactions and provide legal services to the great benefit of our clients.  Wes and his wife, Shannon, are the proud parents of a lovely daughter named Ava.  Wes enjoys traveling, a good round of golf, and the rock and roll band Widespread Panic.

Matt Smith, Shelley Levine and Wes Faulk are each distinguished lawyers and hard-working associates with the firm.  Matt Smith is a native of Union County, and in his five years of practice, Mr. Smith has become a first rate litigator in both the civil and criminal arenas, earning the respect of his peers, prosecutors and judges alike.  Mr. Smith enjoys hunting and fishing, Carolina football and basketball, and plays pool competitively, participating in weekly billiards leagues in the area.

Ms. Levine, licensed in North Carolina and South Carolina, handles the majority of the residential and commercial loan closings for the firm and manages the real estate staff for the practice.  Ms. Levine approaches her work with great attention to detail, and she has developed the reputation as a knowledgeable, skilled and diligent transactional attorney.  Ms. Levine is a native of Wilson, North Carolina, and she enjoys reading, traveling, and visiting friends from her Chapel Hill days.

Wes Faulk, a native of Union County, joined Goodwin & Hinson as an associate attorney in August 2007.  Mr. Faulk focuses his practice on business law and general civil litigation.  Mr. Faulk enjoys time with his friends and family, listens to bluegrass music, and plays pick-up basketball as often as he can.

The G&H staff combines over 100 years of experience, providing competent legal representation to clients in a wide range of practice areas.  Over the last seven years, we have been regularly commended for the professional and friendly way in which our staff handles themselves and the issues of the day.  We are very proud of the staff and value each of them as integral parts of the Goodwin & Hinson, P.A. family.

Our core ideals are excellence (holding ourselves to very high standards for the quality of our work), teamwork (encompassing both the “one-firm” approach to professional activities, professionalism (putting the client’s interests first) and the cultivation of mutually supportive personal relationships within the firm). We seek to establish, maintain and communicate an inclusive work environment in which people of all backgrounds, outlooks and interests can share a commitment to these ideals.
